eHealth Ontario and the South West LHIN

eHealth is the term we use to describe information and clinical technologies that improve patient care, safety and access. As an early adopter of Ontario’s eHealth Strategy, the South West LHIN works closely with eHealth Ontario and other organizations to secure funding for information and clinical technology projects in the region. We also support the independent efforts of local health service providers by facilitating communication and collaboration between all our partners.

Using information and clinical technology to improve the way patients receive care is of critical importance to the future of our health care system, and the South West LHIN has embraced those Provincial eHealth priorities found in Ontario’s eHealth Strategy 2009-2012 that are most closely aligned with our own system level goals as defined in both the Integrated Health Service Plan 2010 – 2013 and the Health System Design Blueprint – Vision 2022.

Although significant progress has been made to date, work remains to be done on several fronts. The system still lacks integration across sectors and geography, inhibiting seamless information sharing between health service providers. The challenge before us is to continue finding and implementing those solutions that will help us improve equitable access to services and encourage a more appropriate use of resources while improving health care services LHIN-wide.
